Anyone who has bought an older house with a garden wall is not always happy with the view the structure offers. Cool-looking, somewhat dirty or outdated walls can be redesigned using simple means so that they convey a very attractive image again.
How can I beautify my garden wall?
A garden wall can be made green by adding climbing plants and treating the surface (e.g. B. fresh plaster, wooden cladding or natural stone veneer) or a new coat of paint to visually enhance the look. The design options can also be combined to create individual accents.
Green garden wall
This is the most natural variant and very easy to implement. Climbing plants such as ivy, wild vine or honeysuckle cling to the joints in the wall and quickly overgrow them. They are also ecologically valuable because many creatures find a protected home in the dense greenery.
An old, morbid-looking garden wall usually has numerous projections and cracks that give it a special charm. If they are of a certain size, they offer the ideal substrate for undemanding rock garden plants.
Refinish surface
There are a variety of options here:
- The appearance of the wall noticeably improves with fresh plaster or a veneer made of natural stone. Decorative plasters with structure, a modern rub plaster or a mineral plaster that prevents moss from growing, provide a completely new look with little effort.
- If you prefer natural materials in the garden, wooden cladding is a good idea. Larch is particularly suitable as this material is very resistant and can be processed untreated.
- It looks extremely elegant if you cover the building with natural stone. These are only two to three centimeters thick and are simply glued to the old wall. This way you can coordinate their appearance perfectly with the rest of your garden design.
Fresh color instead of dreary gray
Many surfaces can be beautified with a new coat of paint. Whether you decide on a color or turn the wall into a painting board together with the children is up to your individual taste.
Tip
The individual design options can be easily combined with each other. You can freshly plaster a section of the wood-clad wall and then have your children paint it as the perfect background for the play area.
