Plowing reduces weeds and deeply loosens the soil. This causes the substrate to warm up more quickly, which promotes soil life and the mineralization of organic matter. However, beginners are faced with many question marks regarding technology and attitude.
How can I plow properly as a beginner?
To plow properly, start at the left edge and adjust the plow to the right. Make sure the plowing depth is correct in relation to the working width, that it is parallel to the ground and that you adjust the underhandle and sidehandle correctly.
Technique for beginners
If you start plowing on the left edge, move the plow to the right. The last disc screen runs exactly on the border. Lay a working width on the bed and drive back in the furrow created without turning the device. Work the field in lines and turn the plow device at the end of each path.
Understanding Settings
The plow is set on a flat field so that the right wheels run in the furrow. It must always be aligned parallel to the floor. This adjustment is made using the top link and cranks on the right lift arm. The furrow depth is calculated from the working width:
- 20 to 22 centimeters plowing depth with a working width of 30 centimeters
- 24 to 26 centimeters plowing depth with a working width of 35 centimeters
- 28 to 30 centimeters plowing depth with a working width of 40 centimeters
Jockey wheels are required (€245.00 on Amazon) to achieve an even depth. They are mainly used on tractors without control hydraulics. If a depth of less than ten centimeters is desired, the additional wheel is essential.
Flock
Experts refer to the lower grip as a flock. This allows the plow to go deeper. By shortening the top link, the underside grip is increased. The plow stands on the tips of the shares and digs deeper into the ground. The furrow becomes shallower as the top link is lengthened.
Side handle
The side handle ensures lateral retraction and is created by the point of the share tip projecting laterally over the system. It allows the plow position to be shifted laterally, so that the first furrow can be made narrower or wider. Side grip is important to create straight running furrows.
Tip
If the tractor fights with the front wheels turned against a force that pulls it into the plowed field, the plow has not been adjusted correctly. The tension point is where the lines of the lower links that have been extended in memory intersect.
