How can I propagate money plants?
The ivy can be easily propagated byoffshootsorcuttings. The latter can be rooted eitherin a glass of waterorin soil. The popular houseplant roots very quickly: the first roots have formed after just three weeks.
How can you propagate ivy from cuttings?
The ivy is particularly easy to propagate through offshoots. This type of plant propagation works in a very similar way to propagation from cuttings - and, like this, is vegetative - however, the young plants are only cut offafter successful rooting Proceed as follows:
- ChooseSprouts with a strong aerial root.
- Sink these into a pot with expanded clay or potting soil.
- Fix the shoot in the substrate with a piece of bent wire.
- Keep the substrate slightly moist.
The young plants can be separated from the mother plant and repotted as soon as they developnew leaves.
How can you propagate the ivy plant through cuttings?
When propagating using cuttings, cut off the shoots immediately and root them eitherin a glass of waterorin nutrient-poor soil. And this is how it works:
- Select shoots with strong aerial roots
- cut into pieces with at least three leaf nodes each (approx. 10 centimeters long)
- remove all but one or two leaves
- Put it in potting soil or place it in a water glass
- Keep substrate moist
- Cover pot with transparent hood
Place the jar or pot in a bright, warm place and ventilate the cover for about an hour every day.
Is it better to propagate ivy plants in soil or in water?
The ivy can be rooted well in both soil and water, although both methods have their specificadvantages and disadvantages. The plant often roots more quickly in a glass of water, and you can also keep a better eye on the growth of the roots. However, thewater must be changed at least every two daysto avoid rot. In soil, however, the ivy plant roots particularly quickly if you ensure awarm microclimate with high humidity. This works great in an (improvised) mini greenhouse, for example. But here too therisk of rot is high if there is too much moisture.
How long does it take for the ivy plant cuttings to form roots?
The ivy plant develops roots very quickly. Alreadyafter two to three weeksthe first roots can be seen. Cuttings in the water glass are potted as soon as theroots are approx. three centimeters long. However, you can transplant cuttings rooted in soil into a more nutrient-rich substrate when they developnew leaves. Rooting will occur even faster if you use aRoot Activator. Homemade willow tea, for example, is very suitable for this.

When is the best time to propagate money plants?
Basically, you can propagate the ivy all year round using cuttings or offshoots. However, it works best in spring or early summer (May / June), as the plant then puts more of its energy into growth.
