Acacias can grow into very tall trees in the wild. In this article you will find out whether its impressive size can also become a problem in your garden and how you can successfully remove the acacia.
How to remove acacia trees?
Theoretically, removing an acacia tree can be time-consuming and strenuous due to its very deep roots. In practice, however, acacias are usually planted in pots; they are rarely planted directly in the ground. Even there they would remain small in Germany because they are not hardy.
How deep do acacias root?
Acacias aredeep-rooted. They also grow in desert regions and have therefore adapted to the conditions there. In order to reach deep groundwater, they develop very deep roots that can reach up to 40 meters underground.
How do I remove acacia trees?
Due to their deep roots, removing an acacia tree is theoretically somewhatchallenging However, since acacias are not found wild in Germany or the rest of Europe, the question of removal is superfluous. Most acacias are grown in containers. To remove these, the plant simply needs to be cut into small pieces, taken out of the pot and disposed of. If you planted your acacia tree in the garden, it will probably die on its own in the winter because it is not hardy. This makes it relatively unlikely that larger acacias will have to be removed.
Tip
Remove mock acacia
The situation is different from acacias with robinias, which are often confused with acacias. The so-called mock acacia is considered an invasive tree species and must be removed if necessary. Since it can develop similarly deep roots as the acacia, this work is somewhat laborious. You can find out how to proceed in this article about removing locust trees.
