An individually designed stream is the highlight in the garden. With a little effort and creativity, you can design your own stream relatively easily and integrate it perfectly into your garden paradise. Find out here how and why you should attach it correctly.
How do I fix the stream?
Put a grass curb at the edge of the planned stream, which youfix with concrete so that it stands securely. Alternatively, you can use gravel to preform the edge of the stream and any dams. Frame the stream with a layer of concrete to secure it.
What should I consider when fixing the stream?
Compact the soil carefully under the planned stream so that larger stones do not sink and disrupt the flow direction. A hand masher is ideal for this. Make sure you have the right gradient, 3 to 5 percent is ideal. The edges of the stream should run parallel to each other so that the water does not flow unplanned along the edge. If you would like to plant the stream bank, it should be designed to be away from the edge of the stream in order to prevent dirty water from entering the stream during storms.
Why does a stream have to be paved?
The attachment to the stream edge gives the stream apermanent support, even in heavy rain or when large, heavy stones are used. Construct your streamlet alone on unpaved earth, it would sink too quickly. This would cause the water to find a new path and flow away unplanned. The edge fastening must be shaped so that the water runs down as centrally as possible in the stream.
Which materials are suitable for fastening the stream?
Concrete, which you mix on site, is best suited to fixing the stream. Concrete is durable, robust and can be shaped individually – the perfect basis for your stream. Shape the stream according to your wishes with springs, barrages, bends, waterfalls and transitions. So you can adapt it ideally to the surroundings and create an individual water garden.
How do I attach stream trays correctly?
Streams can be constructed quickly and easily using stream shells in different colors, shapes and sizes. Stream shells are prefabricated stream terraces and can be purchased individually or as a group. You can combine and expand them individually. Before you put the stream shell in place, thesoil must be thoroughly compacted to avoid slipping or shifting. Place the stream tray on the stream bed filled with sand and earth. Fill any gaps with sand so that the structure stands securely.
Tip
Use sealing powder when building the stream
As an alternative to pond liner, you can add sealing powder to the concrete when mixing. This makes the concrete impermeable to water and you do not need any additional sealing. However, make sure that the entire stream must be lined beyond the edge so that no water is lost to the circuit. This means you can also design a particularly natural-looking stream according to your ideas.
