Adequate water supply is a central aspect in the successful care of strawberries. Excessive watering has just as negative consequences as hesitant watering.
How should you water strawberries?
To water strawberries properly, you should water them abundantly and regularly after planting, allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings and water directly to the roots, preferably in the early morning hours. Never water overhead or under blazing sun.
You should pay attention to this:
- Water strawberries abundantly and regularly after planting
- the soil surface should dry slightly between waterings
- Do not water over flowers and leaves, but directly to the roots
- water preferably in the early morning hours
- never water overhead or under the blazing sun
Since strawberry plants prefer a location with a slightly acidic soil environment, collected rainwater is ideal for watering. Pond water or stale tap water also meet the requirements, thanks to the low lime content.
Pail watering from the bottle
In the pot and flower box, the summer wind dries out the substrate much faster than in the garden soil. If you, as a hobby gardener, can't find the time to water your strawberry plants during the day, a simple trick with the water bottle can help. This is how it works:
- fill water into an empty bottle
- turn it over quickly and stick it into the substrate next to the strawberry plants
- the roots are now continuously supplied
