Voles are not welcome in the garden; But you don't have to kill them straight away. Many animal-friendly gardeners therefore resort to live traps. Find out below how it works, how to set it up correctly and release the captured vole.

To catch a vole with a live trap, place a tube trap with two entrances in a passageway of the vole tunnel system. Use odorless gloves, several traps in the garden and check them at least twice a day. Release the captured vole several kilometers away.

In most cases, a tube trap is used to catch the vole. This has two entrances and is placed in a hallway. If the mouse falls into the trap, a flap lock closes both entrances.
Setting up the vole live trap correctly
Setting up the trap is quite easy, but you should keep a few things in mind:
- Place several live traps (€4.00 on Amazon) in your garden. Voles have a sophisticated system of passages and could otherwise avoid the trap.
- Only handle the vole trap with odorless gloves and clean it thoroughly with clear water before use. Voles have a good sense of smell and avoid things that smell like humans.
- To place the live trap, dig a passageway and place the trap in it. Then close the hole again.

- Check the trap at least twice a day. After all, you don't want to let the poor animal starve in a trap.

You don't have to worry that your vole will now send your friends into your garden. Voles are solitary creatures and can only be found in pairs during mating season.
