The real laurel is also called spice laurel because it is often used as a flavoring ingredient when preparing beef, for example. There are a few factors to consider when planting laurel in the garden.
Which location does the laurel prefer?
The ideal location for laurel is a sunny to partially shaded place, protected from the wind and sandy, nutrient-rich soil. In Central Europe, it is recommended to grow it in a pot so that the laurel can overwinter in a bright place at around 5 degrees Celsius.
The choice of location for the laurel
Basically, the real laurel prefers a relatively sunny location, but it can also be in the shade if necessary. A sandy and nutrient-rich soil is ideal; it does not need to be particularly fertilized for the laurel. Since the laurel is very warm-loving, it should be planted in this country as sheltered from the wind as possible.
Overwintering laurel
In nature, laurel only grows in Europe in the southern countries of the Mediterranean. Since it can only withstand temperatures below freezing to a very limited extent, in Central Europe it is mostly grown in pots and harvested for use in the kitchen. You can ideally overwinter a potted laurel in a bright room with temperatures around five degrees Celsius, where the laurel is watered regularly and adequately.
