The calla can only develop properly in a favorable location. As a plant native to the swampy areas of South Africa, it needs a lot of light. Very few varieties are hardy, so you have to find another location in winter.
Which location is optimal for calla plants?
The ideal location for a calla lily is bright, but without direct midday sun, warm, sheltered from the wind and frost-free. In summer it can be kept in a pot on the terrace or balcony, although it should always be kept moist.
The right location should meet these conditions
- Bright
- Without direct midday sun
- Warm
- Protected from the wind
- Frostfree
Calla likes it bright and tolerates sun well. The only thing you won't get is direct sunlight around midday. Provide shade.
In summer you can care for the calla lilies in pots on the terrace or balcony. But make sure that the location is not too airy.
During the flowering period, the indoor calla needs a lot of moisture and the soil must never dry out. During winter rest, however, the earth must be kept completely dry.
Tips & Tricks
If your calla lily isn't blooming, it may be in the wrong location. However, incorrect care is often to blame if the houseplant does not produce any flowers.
