The non-poisonous black-eyed Susan is also so popular with us because it grows up to two meters high and forms a decorative privacy screen with its strong, edible flowers. Without a climbing aid, the climber remains rather small.
Which trellises are suitable for the black-eyed Susanne?
Pergolas, trellises, garden fences, balcony railings or special flower trellises are suitable as climbing aids for the black-eyed Susan. Simple wooden sticks and bamboo poles are also suitable supports, which should be well anchored in the ground or on walls.
Suitable trellises for the black-eyed Susanne
Basically, the black-eyed Susanne climbs up anything that the shoots can wind around. Ideal climbing aids are:
- Pergolas
- Trellis
- Garden fences
- Balcony railing
- Special flower trellises
Simple wooden sticks (€13.00 on Amazon) or bamboo poles are also sufficient as a climbing aid.
It is important that the supports are well anchored in the ground or on the walls so that the Black-Eyed Susan does not tear them down. A robust installation is recommended, especially in drafty locations.
Tips & Tricks
The black-eyed Susan belongs to the genus of sky flowers. If the non-toxic climbing plant does not receive a climbing aid, the shoots hang downwards. It then only develops a few flowers.
