If the Edellieschen is in the room, it is ready to bloom all year round. It is considered tireless. However, it needs certain care to stay strong and not fall victim to pests or diseases.
How do you properly care for an Edellieschen?
In order to properly care for a noble lily, you should water regularly and with little lime, fertilize every 2 weeks, cut back if necessary, remove withered flowers and protect the plant from frost by overwintering it in a warm apartment.
What should you pay attention to when watering?
While watering should be sparing immediately after planting, watering must be ramped up later. But waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. Likewise, the Edellieschen does not suffer from prolonged dryness.
Also note the following:
- water more frequently and more abundantly in summer
- Keep soil slightly moist
- As a precautionary measure, mulch with bark or grass
- use low-lime to lime-free water for watering
- water less from September
- do not water the leaves
How often and with what do you fertilize?
It is enough to supply the Edellieschen with a portion of liquid fertilizer (€6.00 on Amazon) every 2 weeks. Long-term fertilizers, for example in stick form, are also suitable. If the Noble Lieschen is outdoors, rotted garden compost is suitable, but horn shavings and a thick layer of bark mulch are also sufficient for fertilization.
Does the plant necessarily need pruning?
Impatiens new guinea can tolerate pruning at any time, as long as it is not done too radically. Pruning is recommended to maintain the compact growth. It is best to do it over the course of the summer, because then the shoots become longer and slowly bend downwards.
You should also remove the wilted flowers - ideally daily. Sometimes flowers stick to the leaves of the plant after a rain shower. Pluck these out to avoid mold formation!
Is wintering necessary or unnecessary?
If you don't overwinter your Edellieschen, you can assume that it won't survive the winter. It originally comes from East Africa and does not tolerate frost. Even temperatures below 10 °C can affect it.
It is therefore recommended that potted plants that were previously located outside should be kept in a warm apartment over the winter. The place should be bright, warm and protected from direct sunlight.
Tip
The Noble Lieschen is considered to be extremely resistant to diseases and pests. But don't trust it 100%. Nevertheless, check regularly for infestation and avoid care errors!
