When exactly is the flowering time of daffodils?

The flowering period of daffodils varies depending on the species and variety: early-blooming daffodils bloom from February to March, mid-blooming ones from March to April and late-blooming ones from April to May. Daffodils as trumpet daffodils usually bloom at Easter, i.e. between March and April.

Easter bells bloom at Easter

Easter bells, which belong to the trumpet daffodils, bloom at Easter, as their name suggests. This usually happens between March and April. This means they bloom at the same time as many tulips, hyacinths and other spring flowers. If they are grown in a pot or glass, they can bloom at home all year round.

Flowering time of other daffodil species

There are early, medium and late blooming daffodils. If you want to enjoy the flowers of these plants for a long time, it is best to plant several species or several varieties with different flowering times in the garden.

Here is a selection:

  • early blooming (February to March): cyclamen daffodils e.g. B. 'February Gold', slot-crowned daffodils
  • medium-flowering (March to April): jonquilla daffodils, trumpet daffodils, large-crowned daffodils, small-crowned daffodils
  • late blooming (April to May): poet's daffodil, tazette daffodils, angel's tears daffodils

Tricks to prolong flowering

If you plant and care for the daffodils incorrectly and put them in the wrong place, you shouldn't be surprised if the flowers don't last long. Anyone who has taken everything into account when planting should take note of certain tricks to extend the flowering period.

Daffodils are provided with fertilizer (€19.00 on Amazon) one month before flowering. As soon as the buds have opened, place the daffodils in a pot, glass or vase in a cool place (10 to 15 °C). Cut flowers in the vase should be cut every day. Daffodils in pots and beds are watered abundantly.

Tip

If the daffodils don't bloom, they may have been planted too late or the bulb is weakened.
