With its delicate growth, its flowers and its undemanding nature and compatibility with cutting, feather grass, also known as angel hair, has many advantages that convince gardeners of it. But only in the right location can it stay in top shape.
Where is the ideal location for feather grass?
The optimal feather grass location is a full sun and dry place in the garden, for example in front gardens, rock gardens, heath gardens or on slopes. The soil should be sandy, gravelly or stony, poor and well-drained.
The natural distribution area: dry rocky steppes
The feather grass originally grows in rocky steppes, on dry grassland and other dry areas. Planting it in a location that mimics its natural range will give you the least amount of care.
Location: sunny and dry
Choose a full sun location in the garden for the feather grass. The situation should be protected. Locations in front gardens, rock gardens, heath gardens and on slopes are ideal. The soil there should have the following properties:
- sandy, gravelly or stony
- skinny
- well drained
Tip
Planting neighbors who also originally come from steppe areas are most suitable at the location. But the feather grass also looks great next to sage, lavender, columbine and other ornamental grasses.
