Hussar buttons or hussar buttons are annual plants that reproduce by sowing in their Central American homeland. The summer flowers are used up after one season and cannot be overwintered.
Can you let hussar buttons overwinter?
Overwintering hussar buttons is not possible because they are annual summer flowers and only last one season. After they are used up, you can sow them again next spring to enjoy their floral splendor again.
Overwintering of Hussar Button not possible
Hussar buttons bloom all summer long from June until the onset of frost. However, as soon as it starts to freeze, the non-hardy summer flower freezes to death.
Overwintering Hussar Buttons is not possible. The plant only survives one season and is then used up. Even if you try to overwinter them indoors, delay the death of the hussar head for just a few weeks.
So that you can enjoy the floral splendor of the non-poisonous hussar's button again next year, all that remains is to re-sow the seeds next spring.
Tip
Hussar heads with their long, drooping shoots are ideal plants for hanging baskets. Hussar button itself only grows to around 30 centimeters high and can also be easily cultivated as a ground cover in the rock garden.
