As a former resident of steppes and desert areas in Africa, the desert rose is not adapted to local winters. Even if temperatures fall below 10 °C, this can have dire consequences. Therefore, wintering is the order of the day!
How to care for a desert rose in winter?
To overwinter a desert rose properly, place it in a partially shaded, cool room with temperatures between 10-16°C, do not fertilize, water little, do not cut and check regularly for pests such as scale insects.
The wintering quarters: moderately warm and dry
A partially shaded room is ideal for overwintering the desert rose. Living rooms are completely unsuitable because it is too warm there. Cool bedrooms are more suitable. The temperature should be between 10 and 16 °C and never fall below 10 °C!
Handling in winter: the right care
Don't be surprised if the desert rose gradually loses its leaves. This is completely normal in winter. Considering this, you should pay attention to the following care:
- do not fertilize
- water little
- do not cut
- check regularly for pests (especially scale insects)
Tip
After overwintering, the perfect time has come to repot the desert rose!
