How do I cut wild roses correctly?
You should be careful when cutting wild roses, as they bloom on old wood. They can be thinned out in spring or summer. Overgrown wild roses can be radically pruned, and a hedge should be trimmed and thinned out regularly.
Not too much of a good thing – blooms on old wood
The general rule is: you shouldn't be allowed to see a cut on a wild rose. It is therefore advisable if you do not cut these plants at all or only cut them a little. It is enough to thin them out in summer or spring. If you prune too much in spring, you will remove the flower buds that formed the previous year.
The wild roses are growing – cut back radically
Are your wild roses overgrown now? Then it's high time you cut them! You can cut this plant back radically without any problem. They sprout powerfully again. The best time for this is early spring. But such a cut can also be made immediately after flowering.
Attention: wild roses tend to go bald from below
As you get older, more and more old shoots emerge. At some point they no longer have any leaves. The result: the wild rose looks bare. Now a strong rejuvenation cut would be in order! If you wish, the plant can be shortened to 50 cm.
