The rose genus is estimated to contain between 100 and 250 different species and several thousand varieties - with more varieties being added seemingly every day. But whether wild or noble rose, climbing or shrub rose: all representatives of the genus Rosa should be planted in late autumn if possible.

The best time to plant roses is in late autumn, between late October and early December, when the ground is not frozen and the weather is mild. Bare-root roses are fresher and cheaper, but container roses can be planted year-round as long as they are watered adequately.

Roses are usually planted between late October and early December, provided the weather is mild and the ground is not frozen. At this point, the plants are in hibernation, which is why planting (or transplanting) is particularly stress-free. Another advantage is that the rose can develop further roots in autumn and will therefore have grown so well by spring that it can probably sprout and bloom as usual.
Planting in early spring also possible
But there is another reason: bare-root roses are taken from the fields in autumn and sold fresh from the field. These plants usually grow better and faster than the specimens that are stored in cold storage over the winter and not planted until spring. Apart from that, it is of course also possible to plant roses in early spring - as long as it doesn't freeze. However, budding and flowering can then be delayed.
Containerware can basically be planted all year round
Bare-rooted products are usually many times cheaper than container roses and are preferably offered in autumn. Container goods – i.e. H. Roses cultivated in pots, on the other hand, can be purchased all year round and, provided the weather is appropriate, can generally be planted all year round. Nevertheless, planting these specimens can also be problematic in summer, for example, because due to their high moisture requirements, freshly planted roses risk drying out quickly on hot days.
