Roses are usually red, pink, salmon, yellow or white, although there are even multicolored varieties. Only blue or black roses do not occur in nature; they are usually always colored. However, you don't have to limit yourself to the natural colors, because roses can be dyed in the desired color with little effort.

How can I dye a rose a specific color?

To dye a rose in a desired color, you can cut the stem diagonally, place it in the dyed water and wait for the water to absorb. Ink, food coloring or watercolors are suitable for coloring.

How to dye a rose the color you want

There are different methods for this, because you can dip the flower heads into the paint, spray them or - and this option has proven to be successful - let them soak up the paint. All you have to do is add color to water and place the cut rose there. The flower will absorb the colored water and transport it to all parts of the plant, so that the petals will eventually soak up the color. However, this trick only works with white or very light pink roses. Before coloring, you should cut the cut surface at an angle of approximately 45° - this makes it easier for the plant to absorb water - and also remove all leaves. The final step is necessary to reduce evaporation - the less water evaporates through the leaves, the more color reaches the flower.

What colors can be used?

For coloring you can very well use ink, which is not only available in blue or black, but also in other colors. But food coloring or watercolors (e.g. from a school paint box) are also very suitable. If the desired color is not included in the color selection, you can also mix it yourself from the primary colors offered. The intensity of the color can be regulated by the length of the treatment: the longer you leave the rose in the colored water, the stronger the color will ultimately be.

Coloring a colorful rainbow rose – this is how it works

You can create a really interesting eye-catcher with a multicolored rose. This will amaze you, but the manufacturing principle is very simple: you cut the stem of the rose into two, three or even four parts - the incision should reach approximately to the middle of the stem - and place each individual part in a separate container with dyed Water. Each water cup should have a different color. As a result, each petal will turn a different color.

Tip

You can of course also dry the colorfully colored flowers and preserve them for eternity.
