How can I overwinter tulip bulbs in a pot?
To properly overwinter tulip bulbs in a pot, bury the pot in sandy soil in a protected location so that the top edge of the pot is a hand's width above the ground. If it rains heavily, cover the pots with fleece (€34.00 on Amazon) or foil and take them out again in spring.
Dig in pots without further ado – this is how it works
So that the tulip bulbs sprout in time for the beginning of spring, they are planted in the pot in the fall of the previous year. To protect the flower bulbs from strong temperature fluctuations, we recommend the following gardening trick:
- Place the pot with the tulip bulbs in the sandy soil in a protected location
- Dig the pit so deep that the top edge of the bucket protrudes a hand's breadth above the ground
- Mark the spot with wooden sticks
If winter comes with heavy rainfall, cover the buried pots with fleece (€34.00 on Amazon) or foil. A blanket of snow, on the other hand, is an advantage so that the tulip bulbs are encouraged to sprout. As soon as severe ground frosts are no longer expected in early spring, dig up the tulip bulbs in the pot again.
