Since the subtropical amaryllis thrives as a bulb flower, it is threatened by rot if there is excess moisture. Watering according to a fixed schedule is therefore not recommended. We would be happy to explain to you how to supply your Ritterstern with water precisely.
How often does Amaryllis need to be watered?
Amaryllis should only be watered when the first buds are visible. Water them from below once the soil has dried to a depth of 1-2 cm. In proportion to growth, increase the watering frequency until July and reduce it completely from August until the next shoot.
How to water your Ritterstern correctly
After planting, do not water the amaryllis at all, otherwise it will only sprout leaves. Only when the first buds appear do you start providing water. This is how it works:
- Pour a little water into the saucer parallel to the emergence of the flower stem
- If the substrate surface feels wet, pour out the coaster again
- Only water from below again when the soil has dried to a depth of 1 to 2 cm
The level of evaporation increases in proportion to the growth of flowers and leaves, so you now water more frequently. Continue this water supply until July in order to gradually reduce the amount of watering this month. From August onwards, the knight's star no longer receives water until the next shoots begin.
