Venus flytraps are not pulled because of the flowers, but because of the eye-catching folding traps. When the Venus flytrap blooms, significantly fewer traps form. It is therefore advisable to cut off the flowers - unless you want to harvest seeds for propagation.
Should you cut off the Venus flytrap flower?
It is recommended to cut off the flowers of the Venus flytrap as they take a lot of energy out of the plant and reduce the formation of folding traps. If you want to harvest seeds, leave two inflorescences and fertilize them.
Flowers draw a lot of energy from the Venus flytrap
If you notice flower buds, you should cut them off immediately. The more a Venus flytrap blooms, the fewer traps develop.
Cut the flower stems at the base and discard.
You can also breed new Venus flytraps from the seeds formed in the pollinated flowers. In this case, leave two inflorescences until they dry out.
Tip
If you want to harvest seeds, make sure the flower is fertilized. Shake ripe seeds carefully and store them in the refrigerator until sowing. You can then sow the seeds in early spring.
