To successfully care for a cypress in the garden, choose a sunny, wind-protected location, nutritious, slightly acidic soil and water regularly. Protect the cypress from frost in winter and trim the hedge annually for dense growth.
Cypresses need a sunny location in the garden
The location in the garden should be as sunny as possible and somewhat sheltered from the wind. Cypresses do not thrive in the shade.

Young trees in particular are at risk from frost. Older cypress trees can cope with extreme cold even without additional measures.

Cypresses tolerate pruning well and can be pruned all year round. However, the best time to prune is before and after the growing season, which runs from April to August. However, sick branches should always be shortened immediately.
