The oleander is one of the most popular potted plants for balconies and terraces. The lushly growing flowering shrub should be repotted annually, at least as a young plant, but older specimens only need a new plant pot about every five to ten years.
What size pot does an oleander need?
The ideal pot size for oleander should be twice as wide and deep as the root ball. For newly purchased oleanders, we recommend a planter that is two sizes larger than the existing one. Choose wide rather than deep pots for optimal growth.
Choose wide rather than deep pots for oleanders
The ideal oleander pot (€24.00 on Amazon) is more wide than high so that the roots have plenty of space to grow and enough water can be stored in the substrate it contains. Narrow, tall containers, such as those used for roses, are not suitable for oleanders. The pot is the right size if it is twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. For newly purchased oleanders, however, choose a planter that is two sizes larger than the one in which you purchased the shrub.
Tip
It's time to repot again when the oleander doesn't really want to bloom anymore and only grows a little or seems poor at all.
