The Physalis can be kept permanently in a pot. In order for the nightshade plant from South America to feel comfortable in it, the container must of course be sufficiently large. In this article you will find out which dimensions are recommended for adult Physalis, when pricking out and for cuttings.
What is the right pot size for the Physalis?
An adult physalis needs a pot with aninner diameter of at least 25 cm, better 35 or 45 cm. For pricking out the container should be 9 x 9 cm in size. Plant a Physalis cutting in a pot with an inner diameter of 20 cm.
How big does the pot have to be for the adult Physalis?
The pot for an adult Physalis must holdat least 10 l. Accordingly, it should not be less than an outside diameter of 27 cm and an inside diameter of 25 cm. If possible, choose an even larger pot with a diameter of 40 to 50 cm so that the physalis can develop optimally even when kept in a pot.
Which pot size is recommended when planting the Physalis?
When pricking out the Physalis, we recommend a pot size ofapproximately 9 x 9 cm 8 x 8 or 10 x 10 cm are also fine. However, the pot should not be smaller or larger. Otherwise the plant would either have too little space to grow or could not be placed deep enough in the pot, which in turn would affect the (root) stability.
What size pot should be for Physalis cuttings?
The pot for a Physalis cutting should have aninner diameter of at least 20 cm so that the young plant's growth is not restricted.
Tip
That's why the Physalis needs a relatively large pot
Depending on the variety, the Physalis can grow up to two meters high and just as wide. It also tends to grow. That's why it's important to provide the nightshade with a large container if you want to keep it in a pot.
