As a Mediterranean plant, oleander is not only not used to the typical German winter, but would also not survive it. Although the shrub can tolerate low temperatures for short periods of time (up to around minus five degrees Celsius, depending on the variety and age of the plant), it cannot survive longer periods of deeper frosts. Therefore, oleander should be cultivated in pots if possible and also wintered frost-free.
How do you overwinter oleander in a pot?
To successfully overwinter oleander in a pot, place the plant in frost-free, bright winter quarters at around 5 degrees Celsius when temperatures are frosty. Water about once a month and bring your oleander outdoors early in the spring.
Overwinter oleander frost-free and cool
Frost-free means that oleander should only be moved to winter quarters when frosty temperatures are actually predicted. If, on the other hand, the winter is rather mild, the plant can stay outside - with appropriate protection. Conversely, it is of course also important to bring the pot back outside as early as possible in the spring. Otherwise, top oleander overwinters best at around five degrees Celsius and as brightly as possible, although if the wintering is cool, a dark room will suffice if necessary. Don't forget to water the plant about once a month.

Tip
If you don't have the option of a cool place to overwinter, you can also keep the oleander indoors. However, keep in mind that if the winter is warm, it also needs to be light.
