It bloomed diligently on the balcony all summer long. Now it's slowly getting cooler and it won't be long until the first night frosts come. How can the daisy overwinter in the pot?
How do you properly overwinter daisies in a pot?
In order to successfully overwinter daisies in pots, they should be kept frost-free and bright at 5 to 15 °C from the end of October, kept slightly moist, not fertilized and checked for pests. From the end of April they can be put outside again.
Cut back, quarter and overwinter
Since daisies are not hardy in pots, they should definitely be overwintered from the end of October. Before doing so, it is advisable to cut them back by a third.
Wintering works like this:
- bring it in, to a bright, frost-free location
- ideal wintering temperature: between 5 and 15 °C
- don't let the soil dry out during the winter time
- check for pest infestation
- do not fertilize
- put outside again from the end of April
Tip
Don't be surprised if the evergreen foliage of bush daisies changes color from green to yellow to brown and dries up during the winter. This is not a cause for concern, but completely normal.
