How to successfully propagate a mountain palm?
A mountain palm is propagated using seeds, which can either be purchased or harvested yourself. Before sowing, the seeds should be placed in lukewarm water for 48 hours and roughened slightly. Then sow in potting soil, place in a bright and warm place, keep moist and, after germination, transplant into normal planting substrates.
Is it even worth it to propagate a mountain palm yourself?
It is a tedious process to propagate a mountain palm yourself. It sometimes takes several months for the seed to germinate. You need a lot of patience until you have grown a small mountain palm.
Since mountain palms are quite cheap in stores, it is only worthwhile for real palm fans to propagate these palms themselves.
Harvest seeds yourself or buy them
You can get seeds for mountain palms in stores, sometimes in varieties other than the usual ones.
Mountain palms bloom indoors after just two to three years. If you want to harvest seeds, you will need several plants as the mountain palm is either female or male.
If your palm trees are blooming, stroke the inflorescences several times with a brush to fertilize them. When the flowers dry out, the seeds form inside them. They are ready to harvest when they are black or fall off.
Water seeds before sowing
The mountain palm seed has a very hard shell. Place the seeds in lukewarm water for at least 48 hours before sowing them.
Gardening experts also recommend carefully roughening the shell with some sandpaper.

The ideal germination temperature for mountain palm seeds is between 24 and 26 degrees. However, avoid direct sunlight at the location of the cultivation pots.

After germination, you must not fertilize the mountain palm. As soon as the plants have reached a height of around ten centimeters, place them in tuffs in normal plant pots that are as deep as possible.
Tip
A mixture of compost with leaf mold or, if necessary, peat has proven to be a suitable planting substrate for mountain palms. This soil stores enough water and supplies the mountain palm with all the nutrients it needs.
