Indoor firs are very decorative - but they are only partially suitable for beginners. The plant, which comes from Australia, places high demands on care and even more on location. It reacts to care errors or the wrong place with brown or yellow needles.
Why does my indoor fir tree have yellow needles?
Yellow needles on indoor firs can be caused by too bright light, too low humidity, dried out root balls, waterlogging or a lack of nutrients. To counteract this, you should adapt the location, fertilize regularly and ensure sufficient humidity.

There are a number of locations and care errors that can be responsible for yellow needles on an indoor fir:
- too bright location
- humidity too low
- Root ball dried out
- Waterlogging
- Nutrient Deficiency
It is important that you react immediately to discoloration of the needles, drooping branches or branches falling off and take action. Otherwise there is a risk that the indoor fir can no longer be saved and will die.
A good location for the indoor fir
Indoor firs need a lot of light, but cannot tolerate direct sun. If you care for it in the flower window, shade the indoor fir, especially during midday.
In summer, an indoor fir can tolerate up to 22 degrees, while in winter it doesn't like it warmer than 5 to 10 degrees. It is therefore important to keep a fir tree cooler when overwintering so that it does not turn yellow.
The place should also be chosen so that you don't constantly bump into the branches as you walk past.
High humidity preferred
The humidity should not be too low. The warmer the ambient temperatures, the more often you should spray an indoor fir tree with soft water.
The root ball must never become completely dry, but waterlogging must be avoided at all costs. Always water only when the top layer of soil has dried out. Do not leave water in the saucer or planter.
Fertilize indoor firs regularly
In summer you should ensure that the indoor fir receives sufficient nutrients. Fertilize with rhododendron fertilizer every two weeks. Only immediately after repotting should you not give any fertilizer for several weeks.
Tip
In the summer, give the indoor fir a place on the balcony. But make sure that the plant is not in direct sunlight. Make sure that rainwater cannot accumulate in the pot.
