Why does the money tree get yellow leaves and what helps against it?
Yellow leaves on the money tree are usually caused by substrate that is too moist, a location that is too dark or spider mite infestation. To save the leaves, reduce watering, increase light, and treat pests if necessary.
Causes of yellow leaves of the penny tree
The causes of discoloration on the leaves are usually:
- too moist substrate
- Location too dark
- Spider mite infestation
Don't water too much
Watering sparingly. The root ball should only be moderately moist. Water that collects in the saucer should be drained immediately.
Money trees need a lot of light
Locations that are too dark are not good for the money tree and it reacts with yellow leaves.
Detecting and treating pest infestations
Yellow leaves can also be caused by spider mites. They occur mainly in winter and can be recognized by small webs that are particularly noticeable on the undersides of the leaves and occasionally on the branches. Sometimes you will also see small white dots.

If the money tree gets red leaves, there is no need to worry. The red color on the edges of the leaves is caused by strong direct sunlight. However, this does not damage money trees.
