Water supply is one of the mainstays of Monstera's care program. The window leaf comes from the regions of South America, with a warm, humid rainforest climate. It is therefore obvious that correct watering in Central European living spaces requires special attention. This is how you water your foliage plant in an exemplary manner.

How should you properly water a Monstera?

In order to water a Monstera as needed, the substrate should be moist and dry occasionally. Water thoroughly, empty the saucer after 10 minutes and regularly spray the leaves with lime-free water.

Watering Monstera as needed – This is how it works

Don't follow a strict schedule when you go to your window leaf with the watering can. Rather, the water balance depends on various factors, such as the season, the local location or the size of the plants. How to do it right:

  • The aim is for a moist substrate that dries out in the meantime
  • If the surface is dry, pour thoroughly until the coaster fills up
  • After 10 minutes, pour out the coaster
  • Spray the leaves regularly with lime-free water

Please mainly use rainwater or decalcified tap water. If a window leaf is watered primarily with hard water, leaf chlorosis results, in which the leaves turn yellow and die.
