How do I plant an Easter bowl?

To plant an Easter bowl, you need a bowl, clay granules or pebbles, potting soil, moss, decorative elements and spring bloomers such as daffodils, anemones or crocuses. Follow the design process step by step and pour carefully.

Which plants are suitable for the Easter bowl?

Almost all Easter flowers also thrive in a bowl, especially if they are purchased as plants or the tuber is needed to germinate before being planted in the bowl. Particularly popular for Easter bowls:

  • Daffodils
  • Easter bells
  • Anemones
  • Spring primroses
  • Crocuses
  • Lily of the valley
  • Pansies
  • Daisies
  • Grape Hyacinths

What do you need to plant an Easter bowl?

In addition to some of the above plants in the colors you want, you will need:

  • a bowl
  • Clay granules or pebbles
  • good potting soil
  • Moss
  • possibly decorative elements

Which bowl is suitable for planting?

If you tend to over-indulge in watering, you should definitely choose a plant bowl with drainage and a saucer. Otherwise the beautiful Easter bloomers will quickly drown. If you don't have one at hand, you can also use a bowl without a drain, but you should water carefully.

Planting the Easter bowl step by step

  • First, you should clean the bowl well to prevent pathogens from being in it.
  • Then fill the bottom layer of pebbles or clay granules into the bowl. This layer acts as a drainage layer and prevents waterlogging.
  • Then fill the bowl about halfway with potting soil or garden soil.
  • Then distribute your spring bloomers in the bowl as you wish. If necessary, loosen the root balls a little before planting.
  • Fill the remaining gaps with soil so that the bowl is filled to about two centimeters below the edge.
  • Now spread the moss around your plants. This not only looks beautiful, but also protects the soil from drying out and prevents weeds from growing.
  • Add decorative elements such as small Easter bunnies, butterflies, deer or other (clay) figures as desired. Self-painted stones, e.g. in the shape of ladybugs or Easter eggs, also look pretty.
  • Finally, pour some water into your Easter bowl and place it in a bright place.

Tips: Bulbous plants such as daffodils, anemones or daffodils are perennial. Do not throw away the bulbs after they have faded, but store them in a dry, cool place and plant them in your garden in autumn.
