Kalanchoes are succulents, a family of plants that can store a lot of water in their thick-fleshed leaves. The liquid requirements of the various species are rather low, which makes them very easy to care for.
How should you water Kalanchoes properly?
Kalanchoes should be watered moderately but regularly, adding water a little at a time until it flows out of the pot. Use soft tap water or rainwater and avoid waterlogging as the plants are sensitive to it.
Watering: Moderately but regularly
The Kalanchoe is watered sparingly during the growing season whenever the substrate feels dry.
- Do not use tap water or rainwater that is too hard.
- Pour slowly until liquid comes out of the pot.
- Tip this away after a few minutes, because Kalachoen are very sensitive to waterlogging.
Flowering Kalanchoes such as the Busy Lieschen should be kept evenly moist but not too wet. Therefore, water them a little more often than their flowerless relatives.
Tip
If you forget to water, the Kalanchoe won't immediately resent you. It can sustain itself well for some time with the moisture stored in the leaves, which makes it the ideal office plant.
