Weather-sensitive vegetables, crop loss, exotic plant species, hybrid seeds and planting plan: Gardening in a greenhouse requires a variety of horticultural knowledge if you want to harvest all year round. That's why even the smallest house needs a well-thought-out plan.
What should you consider when gardening in a greenhouse?
When gardening in a greenhouse, a well-thought-out planting plan, taking into account different vegetation phases and technical equipment as well as knowledge of plant species and needs are essential. This means you can harvest successfully all year round.
There is often too little space, even in the largest greenhouse. If you want to achieve decent yields by the end of the year, you cannot avoid a planting plan that is based on the different vegetation phases. Anyone who is managing their greenhouse for the first time and therefore only has modest practical experience will not be able to avoid reading up on some in-depth basic gardening knowledge. First and foremost, there must first be clarity about what can and should be grown in terms oftechnical equipment Both the individual cultivation of a wide variety of plant species and their combination with each other are possible, such as:
- Vegetable cultivation

- Wine and exotic fruits

A large proportion of the greenhouses are so-called cold houses, which are only equipped with a small, usually external heater for emergencies. Gardening in a greenhouse makes it possible to grow vegetables and herbs in advance, helps to bring forward the later harvest from the open field by weeks, as well as to harvest for longer and to allow the (extra?) yields to grow more safely.
Raising heat-loving crops
Due to the extreme climate fluctuations that have been observed particularly in recent years and their unfavorable effects on the growth development of such popular plants as cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and eggplants, cultivation until harvest is increasingly taking placeexclusively under the protective glass instead. Nevertheless: It reliably helps against excessive harvest losses for your favorite vegetables, but usually has negative effects when it comes to the aroma and taste of the fruit. Especially when growing vegetables yourself, it is worth being a little more demanding and critical when it comes to seeds. Hybrid varieties make the harvest look quite impressive visually, but in terms of natural taste, they usually have to accept losses. Organic seeds from breeders, for which there is a fairly extensive dealer network, are only slightly more expensive.
