The medium-difficult Alocasia (arrow leaf) is grown as a houseplant not because of its flowers, but because of its interestingly shaped, multi-colored leaves. The flowers of most varieties are rather unspectacular and should therefore be cut straight away.
What should you do with the Alocasia flower?
The flower of the Alocasia, also known as the arrow leaf, should be cut off immediately after it appears, as it is rather inconspicuous and takes unnecessary strength away from the plant. In addition, the berries resulting from fertilized flowers are highly poisonous.
Cut off the Alocasia flower immediately
It's easy to see from the flower that Alocasia belongs to the arum family. It consists of a sepal from which the piston grows. In most varieties, the sepal is light green in color, while the spadix is yellowish in color.
In contrast to the usually very colorful and eye-catching leaves, the flower is rather inconspicuous. It is therefore usually cut off straight away.
Tip
You should always cut off the Alocasia inflorescences straight away. They rob the plant of unnecessary strength. In addition, the berries resulting from the pollinated flowers are highly poisonous. Always wear gloves when cutting so that the latex cannot get on your skin.
