Water not only has an extremely calming effect, it can also be used wonderfully for designing gardens and relaxation areas - such as the terrace.

How do you design a stream for the terrace?

A stream for the terrace can be designed as a brick, planted watercourse that leads around the terrace. A boulder or a water feature serves as the source, while a collecting basin or pond forms the end. Pay attention to pump noises and mosquitoes.

Terrace as a feel-good oasis

On the terrace, which is usually located directly at the house and often functions as an “extended living room”, you want to rest after work, stretch your legs and unwind. That's why it makes sense to design this part of the garden as a quiet oasis of well-being that allows relaxation and even promotes it with the right design elements. This also includes water, which calms you down with its gentle babbling in the form of small water features or even a stream near the terrace.

Ideas for patio design with a stream

The stream on the terrace can be realized in many different ways. A very nice idea is, for example, a brick stream running around the terrace, the bank of which has been lushly planted with flowering perennials and bushes. Not only do you bring a piece of nature close to your home, the plants also create a certain level of privacy - at least if the plants are tall enough. This is also an advantage for the water supply of the stream, because it should not be in full sun anyway - in the shade, less of the precious water evaporates. A suitably processed boulder or a pretty water feature that releases the water into the stream with a gentle gurgle can be used as a source. A collecting basin or a small pond is essential as an end point, and you shouldn't forget a pump for the constant water cycle.

You should think about this when planning the course of the stream

And this is where it becomes critical when planning a romantic stream directly on the terrace: such a pump naturally causes noise, and the more it does, the higher its performance. So think carefully about whether you can live with the constant humming or whether this noise is likely to get on your nerves soon. For the same reason, only a small stream, but not a rushing stream, should run around the terrace - the more water flows, the more it splashes.

Tip

It should also be borne in mind that mosquitoes are increasingly present near bodies of water. Of course, a small stream or other water source directly on a terrace is no exception.
