Loquats have a moderate water requirement. If you cultivate your medlar in a pot, the excess water should be able to drain out of the pot. In the garden, the water seeps through the well-loosened soil. Loquats don't like water on their leaves because the moist environment provides good growth conditions for fungal spores.

The water requirements of your loquat
Young plants need more water in the first two weeks than established shrubs and hedges. The young stems need plenty of water to root. Ten to 20 liters of water per square meter are enough to provide the plants with moisture. Older plants need regular fresh water during long dry periods.
