The flowering phase is of course the highlight of angel trumpet culture. This is where the poetic name of the South American ornamental plant comes from. However, there is no general answer to when you can expect the artistic, large flowers to appear.
When is the flowering time of the angel trumpet?
The flowering time of the angel's trumpet varies depending on the variety and group. The approximate flowering time is between June and October. Varieties in the warm group are more likely to bloom from July, while the cold group can bloom as early as May.

Basically, there is a general indication of when the angel's trumpet blooms. Rough descriptions of the genus usually give a general flowering period from June to October. However, the exact flowering phase depends on the variety. Some varieties show their flowers as early as May, others only from July. It is useful to know that within the Brugmansia genus there are two groups: the warm and the cold group.

The two Brugmansia groups get their name from the origin of the associated varieties. Although the South American Andes are the home of all angel's trumpets, the area has both warm sea regions and cool mountain altitudes - and angel's trumpet varieties have developed at all altitudes up to around 3000 m.
Warm group
The warm varieties originally come from lower altitudes and are therefore generally more accustomed to warmth. So you can generally expect them to bloom a little later - from July rather than May. The warm group includes:
- Brugmansia insignis
- Brugmansia suaveolens
- Brugmansia versicolor
Cold Group
The cold group includes the varieties that come from the Andean mountains and are used to colder temperatures. Their flowers can open early in May and are also less sensitive to bad weather conditions. They can also produce flowers in winter if you can provide them with a winter garden or greenhouse with mild temperatures and bright lighting conditions as overwintering quarters! The warm group includes:
- Brugmansia aurea
- Brugmansia vulcanicola
- Brugmansia sanguinea
