Linden trees are not only popular because of their beautiful growth, heart-shaped foliage and fragrant flowers. Their frugality in terms of location also makes the deciduous tree a popular candidate for parks, gardens and espalier plantings.
Which location conditions does the linden tree prefer?
The ideal location for a linden tree offers semi-shady lighting conditions, enough space for its crown, which can be up to 15 m wide, and a calcareous soil without high amounts of s alt. Avoid locations near winter bedding areas or fertilizer sites.
The essential location needs of Linde
Most species of the Tilia genus come from temperate climate zones and are native to us. In terms of climate, they feel completely comfortable here. They also don't have any special requirements when it comes to soil technology. However, if you want to plant a linden tree in your garden, you should consider the following factors:
- partially shaded lighting conditions
- no high amounts of s alt in the soil
- sufficient width space
Substrate
The lime tree can cope with most soils. What she loves is a lot of lime. What it is sensitive to, however, are s alts. A location near which s alt is spread in winter or fertilization is therefore taboo.
Room for the crown
Since linden trees form a spreading crown with a span of up to 15 m, enough space should be provided for them. Planting them in the immediate vicinity of the neighboring property or a house wall does not make sense.
