How should you properly fertilize a pine tree?

To fertilize a pine tree, if magnesium is deficient, use Epsom s alt or conifer fertilizer for general nutritional needs. Bonsai pines are best fed with bonsai liquid fertilizer or granules. Fertilize monthly in winter and every two weeks when growing, but avoid the budding stage.

Epsom s alt - an effective remedy for nutrient deficiencies

Epsom s alt is a substance with a high magnesium content. It is considered an optimal fertilizer for various conifers. But other plants with green leaves also benefit from the product. When using, follow the steps below:

  1. take a soil sample using a test strip from the nursery to rule out other negative factors such as dryness, too much lime or excessive moisture
  2. use Epsom s alt only if there is a nutrient deficiency
  3. To do this, get a two percent solution (€19.00 at Amazon) (also available in solid form)
  4. be sure to adhere to the dosage recommendations given (see below)
  5. water your pine tree sufficiently afterwards

Benefits of Epsom S alt

  • regulates the pH value of the soil
  • releases its effect very quickly
  • washes out easily

Pay attention to the dosage

Use Epsom s alts only if you have a magnesium deficiency and be sure to stick to the recommended amount. Otherwise, there will be an excess of magnesium in the soil, which will lead to a simultaneous potassium deficiency.

Alternatives

Do you think it's not just magnesium that your pine tree is lacking, or is the soil pH either too low or too high? In this case, you are well advised to use special conifer fertilizer.

Fertilizing a bonsai pine tree

Epsom s alt is usually not required for a bonsai pine tree. It is better to use bonsai liquid fertilizer here. Here too, you can choose from solid granules as an alternative. While you should only enrich the substrate once a month in winter, your pine tree will thrive if you give it fertilizer every two weeks. Fertilizing is not recommended during budding.
