Weeding is probably one of the most annoying garden tasks. As soon as you have mechanically removed unwanted plants, the annoying green appears again. Numerous home remedies for weeds, such as cola, promise permanent relief. But is the use of sweet lemonade allowed in the garden and does it really control weeds?
Is Cola effective against weeds in the garden?
Cola only helps to a limited extent against weeds and is more suitable for combating moss, as the phosphoric acid it contains can prevent new moss from forming. However, cola is not an ecologically friendly option and can damage ornamental plants and microorganisms.
Does Cola actually work that well against weeds and moss?
Cola is rather unsuitable for destroying weeds in beds. However, moss that grows in cracks and on paving slabs or in the lawn can be contained with the sweet shower. The reason for this is the phosphoric acid it contains, which can even counteract the formation of new moss.
However, the product can become an adhesive trap due to the high sugar content. It is therefore not advisable to use it on large areas.
The liquid works very well in inaccessible places that are difficult to reach with a brush and scratch. The joints are not affected by the agent and you do not have to worry about discoloration.

The following methods are guaranteed to be environmentally friendly and help to curb unwanted greenery in the long term:
- Classic weeding is proven, although more physically demanding.
- To remove weeds from joints and cracks, you can use a joint scraper (€10.00 on Amazon).
- Alternatively, you can flame the plants on paved areas.
- Massive vegetation can be counteracted through good soil care.
- Mulching suppresses weeds in beds.
Tip
Caution is advised when using plant protection products in private gardens. The use of this is only permitted within narrow limits in areas used for gardening, but not at all on sealed or paved areas. This ban is justified by the fact that weed killers run off the areas, enter the sewage system via storm drains and cause major problems in sewage treatment plants.
