A eucalyptus enriches your home both as a houseplant and on the terrace or in the garden. If you choose the right location when planting and follow the other tips on this page, the deciduous tree will thrive.
How to plant a eucalyptus correctly?
To plant a eucalyptus, choose a sunny location, dig a 20 cm deep hole, loosen the soil, add compost, plant the eucalyptus, close the hole and then water. Make sure there is sufficient planting distance and a permeable substrate.
Location
Eucalypts need a bright location. It is ideal to stay on a south-facing windowsill or terrace. It is best to place the tree somewhat protected.
Opportunities
- In the bucket on the terrace
- On the balcony
- In a pot as a houseplant
- As a solitaire in the garden bed
Keeping it in a container is highly recommended for overwintering, as in this case you can bring the tree into the house. Placed on the balcony or terrace, its intense scent keeps mosquitoes and insects away. Please note that other plants may suffer from the eucalyptus if you plant it in the bed.
Substrate
So that waterlogging does not form, the substrate must be well-drained. For better supply, add additional compost.
