It's not just children who love splashing and playing in the water. On hot summer days, the cool water provides pleasant cooling and offers lots of fun. You don't even have to drive to the nearest outdoor swimming pool. With our water feature ideas you can bring water fun into your own garden without much effort.
What water features can you do with the family in the garden?
For water games with the family in your own garden, self-made water slides, water jumping games, boat races, water bomb pinatas, fishing with your feet, throwing water sponges, water fights and apple fishing are suitable. These games provide cooling and fun on hot summer days.
Self-built water slide
Water slides in different designs are available from specialist retailers. A long and stable plastic tarpaulin, e.g. heavy painter's foil, will also do the trick. Run water from the garden hose over the tarpaulin and the fun sliding game can begin.
Water Bouncy Game
Again, a sturdy tarpaulin is the basis. Draw bouncy boxes on these with a waterproof pen. If there is only one central field, the children have to land in it with both feet. You have to hop with your legs spread in two boxes next to each other.
Place the garden hose so that the entire tarpaulin is wetted by water. Now you have to jump so that the water splashes as hard as possible and gets everyone around wet.
Boat Racing
First, fold small paper boats with the kids and label them with the names of the participants. If available, you can also use rubber ducks.
All boats are placed in a paddling pool. At your command, the children have to blow the boats to the other side of the pool.
Water Bomb Pinatas
Pinatas are colorful figurines originally made from clay pots wrapped in crepe paper and filled with candy or fruit. This popular party game can be modified in summer:
- Fill balloons or water bombs with water.
- Hang these in trees.
The children now have to try to pierce the pinatas with a stick. This means that the cool water splashes onto all players and ensures a fun cooling down.
Fishing with your feet
You need:
- A tub filled with water or a children's paddling pool,
- a chair,
- Items such as keys, stones, toy cars, teaspoons and the like.
Place the chair on the container so that the kids can reach into it with their feet. Now the children have to try to fish an object out of the water using only their feet. This keeps you cool and is not as easy as you think.
Throwing water sponge
Wet blackboard sponges flying around classrooms usually cause trouble. In this summer garden game it is even desirable to throw the wet sponge. For this you need a sponge that is not too small and large flower coasters that serve as a throwing target.
The sponge is dipped in water and now, like throwing cans, you have to hit the target a few meters away. The winner is the person who was able to best estimate the trajectory of the unusual bullet and scores the most points.
Water fight
Once the sponge is wet, the water sponge competition can be followed by a water fight. All participants are divided into two teams. Lay a rope on the lawn. This line should not be crossed. And the happy water fight can begin.
fishing for apples
This game is suitable for older people who can already hold their breath and dive well. Some apple slices are placed on the bottom of the paddling pool. The children now have to fish them out of the water with their mouths, without using their hands. Afterwards, the sweet fruits can be eaten straight away.
Tip
For the little ones, there are a variety of water toys available in stores (€35.00 on Amazon) that provide hours of fun. Water rides, wheels that move through the water jet or battery-operated boats turn your home paddling pool into a water paradise. Motor development and concentration are also promoted.
