How to grow aquatic plants from seeds?
To grow aquatic plants from seeds, collect mature seeds in the fall, keep them moist and cool until sowing, spread them on moist pulp, prick out seedlings and place them in a water-filled container with potting soil before moving them to the garden pond become.
Growing by seeds – instructions
- Collect the ripe seeds from the ripe fruit heads in late summer or autumn.
- Keep seeds moist and cool until planting. Caution: If you do not take this into account, the seeds will dry out and then require much more time to germinate. You should also note that you must store the seeds in a cool and dry place if you plan to sow them next spring. Otherwise they will grow mold and are no longer usable.

- Transplant the young plants into individual pots as soon as they grow above the water surface. Place these pots in a glass or plastic aquarium filled with water.

Possible alternatives to growing from seeds
As you can see from the instructions, growing aquatic plants from seeds requires a relatively large amount of effort. Fortunately, there are also much easier ways to propagate aquatic plants. We are talking about vegetative methods (e.g. propagation from cuttings).
Important: Not all aquatic plants produce fruits and therefore seeds under local climatic conditions. This means that you can't avoid choosing a vegetative version of these plants if you want to grow them.
