Having earth wasps in the garden can really ruin your summer. The striped stinging insects are on the one hand annoying, but on the other hand they can also pose a serious danger. In certain cases it may be necessary to remove the entire nest.

How can earth wasps be removed professionally?

A specialist should be hired to remove earth wasps. He can relocate the wasp nest professionally by putting the wasps into a twilight state, vacuuming them out of the burrow and building the nest in a new location.

Wasps are not to be trifled with

Wasps are generally peaceful animals - but also quite determined ones. When it comes to the supply or peace of their state, they have no shyness. When searching for food and defending their nest, they behave offensively and defensively - unlike bees, for example. This is also because, unlike bees, they can use their dreaded stinger several times in their lives.

Basically, you should approach wasps with caution and calm. If a colony has settled in your garden soil, you should carefully consider whether you can take active action against the animals or come to terms with them to some extent. There are a few reasons for extensive toleration:

  • Wasps are protected species
  • Active combat can be punishable and very dangerous
  • Wasp state only exists from spring to autumn
  • Lots of options to simply avoid the animals or keep them away

The aspect of species protection is important to consider not only for the sake of the animals, but also for yourself. The Federal Nature Conservation Act stipulates high fines for those who intentionally disturb, catch or kill wasps without a reasonable reason. In certain cases, however, you can obtain official permission for control - for example if there is an allergy to insect venom or there are small children in the household.

How to remove earth wasps

If the removal of a wasp nest is unavoidable and has been approved by the authorities, you should definitely hire a specialist to do it. It is anything but advisable to attempt this dangerous undertaking yourself. Because dealing with predatory insects correctly requires a lot of experience and professional equipment.

The most common method of removing a wasp nest during the season is relocation. Early in the morning or evening, when they are less active, the wasps are put into a twilight state with an animal-friendly agent and vacuumed out of the burrow. The nest is then carefully dismantled and rebuilt in a suitable location 3-4 kilometers away. From there the wasps can no longer find their way back to their previous location.

Prevention: Making ancient sites uninhabitable

In the fall, when new queens have emerged, a wasp colony dissolves. The fertilized females alone overwinter to found their own state the following year. Usually they look for a new shelter. The risk that a site in the garden will be colonized again year after year is therefore low. In order to reduce the residual risk, it is advisable to dig up an old building in the fall and thereby make it uninhabitable.
