How sad, the lilies have withered. The sight of them was fascinating, exotic and their scent was breathtaking. But are all lilies the same in terms of their flowers or are there differences?
How are lily flowers different?
Lily flowers vary in inflorescence, flowering time, flower shape, flower color and smell. They can have single flowers or clusters, trumpet-shaped, cup-shaped or Turk's-cuff shapes, and come in colors such as green, yellow, white, orange, red and purple. Some are fragrant, others are odorless.
Properties of lily flowers
There are numerous types and varieties of lilies. Although the range is wide, their flowers have many similarities. Among other things, the flowers are striking, exotic-looking, radially symmetrical and attached to the ends of the stems. In addition, they usually cannot pollinate themselves, but need another plant to do so.
Differences between lily species
The following striking differences exist between the flowers of the different types of lilies:
- Inflorescence: single flowers or clusters
- Flowering period: May to August
- Flower shape: trumpet-shaped, cup-shaped, Turk's bunch (petals rolled back)
- Flower color: green, yellow, white, orange, red, purple
- Smell: fragrant or odorless
