Which loosestrife varieties are suitable for the home garden?
Recommended loosestrife varieties for the home garden include 'Blush' (soft pink flowers), 'Robert' (purple flowers), 'Swirl' (fireplace pink flowers), 'Rocket', 'Augenweide', 'Stichflamme' and 'gypsy blood'. These varieties are easy to grow, easy to care for and offer a variety of colors and heights.
Recommended varieties for the home garden
In total there are more than 40 different varieties of loosestrife. We have selected some of them that are particularly easy to care for and are therefore ideal for cultivation in your own garden.
Loosestrife ‘Blush’
- Flower color: delicate pink
- maximum height: 40 to 60 cm
In contrast to other varieties, the flowers of this species are a little more subtle. It doesn't shine crimson, but rather has its own charm with its delicate pastel pink. Loosestrife 'Blush' can therefore be wonderfully combined with other perennials. Yellow or sky blue flowering plants create a wonderfully romantic look.
Loosestrife ‘Robert’
- Flower color: violet
- maximum height: 80 cm
The purple loosestrife 'Robert' flower candles have a narrow shape. However, when planted in groups, a compact sea of flowers is created that many insects also enjoy. Unfortunately, this variety flowers a little shorter than its relatives. Already in August the buds close and prepare for autumn.
Loosestrife ‘Swirl’
- Flower color: chimney pink
- maximum height: 60 cm
The purple loosestrife 'Swirl' delights with the typical pink-red flowers that make the ornamental plant so popular. But the bright color is a deception. Unfortunately, this variety is a specimen with double flowers. For insects, this means that the search for nectar here is in vain. The loosestrife 'Swirl' is therefore not suitable for attracting beneficial insects to the garden. However, the property of double flowers also has advantages. Are you allergic to insect bites? Then you can confidently put this variety on the terrace.
