Most gardeners grow red raspberries in the garden. It is little known that there are a variety of yellow raspberry varieties. Yellow raspberries are a real eye-catcher. They are sweet as sugar and are in no way inferior to their red relatives.
What are yellow raspberries and what varieties are there?
Yellow raspberries are sugary-sweet fruits that are available in numerous varieties such as “Golden Queen”, “Fallgold” or “Alpengold”. You can grow them in the garden or in containers and combine them with red or black raspberries to create attractive color contrasts.
Bring color into the garden with yellow raspberries
Yellow raspberries are hard to find in stores. That's one more reason to grow a few yellow varieties in the garden or in the container.
The cultivation does not differ from that of the red representatives. You can grow yellow raspberries outdoors as well as in pots on the balcony or terrace.
Most yellow varieties that are available in specialist retailers (€16.00 on Amazon) are relatively new. They are more robust against diseases and pests. Probably the oldest yellow raspberry that is still commonly grown is the “Yellow Antwerp”.

Yellow summer raspberries

“Golden Queen” is one of the newer varieties that is more robust than older varieties. The first fruits are already ripe in summer. New fruits continue to develop until the first frost.
When growing the “Yellow Antwerp” you can do without a scaffold. “Fallgold” is not just a summer raspberry. The first berries are ripe in July, making it one of the early autumn raspberries.

“Alpengold” is highly valued by many gardeners because it does not form spines. The “Goldmarie” variety is not easy to get. It is one of the old landraces that is unfortunately only rarely planted these days. It is often only available in exchange in neighboring allotment colonies.
If you want to plant a hardy variety in your garden, “Golden Everest” is a good choice. It is resistant to diseases and produces beautiful, large fruits. “Autumn Amber” has a very pretty color, the yellow of which has an apricot tone. The fruits of “Autumn Gold” take on a warm honey tone.
Yellow Two-Timer Variety
A yellow two-timer variety is “Sugana”. It develops very large fruits and tastes aromatic of wild raspberries. Since it can be harvested twice, it is particularly suitable for growing in allotments.
Raspberry bushes with yellow and red fruits
Bicolor raspberries were bred especially for growing in pots. A red and a yellow variety are combined with each other. The plants remain quite small and can be harvested several times.
