What types of daisies are there?
There are over 40 species of daisies that belong to the daisy plant family. Popular garden plants include mountain daisy, black-edged daisy, Steineralpen daisy, Robinson pink daisy, multi-leaved daisy, Haller daisy, shrub daisy, fat meadow daisy and poor meadow daisy.
More than 40 species – characteristics they all have in common
There are more than 40 species, most of which are native to European regions. They all belong to the Asteraceae plant family. They naturally have flowers that consist of white ray florets and yellow tubular florets. Only some cultivars can have ray flowers of a different color. Another feature that unites all species is that they all have petiolate basal and stem leaves.
Daisies, which are popular as garden plants

The fat and poor meadow daisies
These two species of daisies are probably most commonly found in wild meadows in this country. The poor meadow daisy is branched and has several flower heads per stem. It loves nutrient-rich soil and prefers to grow in meadows, fields and pastures. It is also known as the meadow wildflower.
In contrast to this is the fat meadow daisy, which is also native to Europe. It has unbranched stems and comparatively large flower heads. Their flowering period begins in May and lasts until October. Their height is between 50 and 100 cm and their foliage is dense.
The bush marguerite
A rather unusual example of a daisy is the bush daisy. Unlike the other species, which are short-lived and herbaceous, this species is long-lived and evergreen. Their growth differs greatly from that of other species.
The shrub marguerite is even available as a standard tree with a height of up to 150 cm. The bush marguerite is suitable for both pot and outdoor cultivation. Their flowering period is from May to October.
Tip
Not all daisies are sufficiently hardy. Before you buy, consider whether you could overwinter a frost-sensitive daisy!
