Splinters and thorns can usually be easily pulled out of the skin with tweezers. Sometimes the spines are so deep in the skin that no utensils can help. In these cases, you should pre-treat the areas with home remedies.
How can thorns be effectively removed from the skin?
To remove thorns or splinters from the skin, you can use baking soda, tape, olive oil, or steam. Each method helps to soften the skin and remove the foreign body more easily, with olive oil being particularly suitable for sensitive skin.
- Baking powder: as an effective remedy for small splinters
- Adhesive tape: for people insensitive to pain
- Olive oil: for children and sensitive people
- Water vapor: as a last option
Baking powder
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a little water and stir the home remedy until a mushy consistency is formed. Spread the mixture over the area where the spike has penetrated the meat. Cover this with a bandage or wrap a gauze bandage around it. The leavening agent keeps the area moist so that over the next few hours the skin will soften and swell and the splinter will come out.
Adhesive tape
This method is suitable for people with a low sensitivity to pain, as pulling it off causes pain due to attached hairs. If the splinter has drilled too deeply into the skin, even the strongest duct tape won't help. If the thorn sticks out, press the adhesive tape firmly onto the area and then pull it off with a jerk. In the best case scenario, the sprinkles will stick.
Olive oil
This variant offers a gentle alternative if you cannot grasp the stinger with tweezers. Feet and hands can be bathed in warm oil for 20 minutes so that the skin softens and the splinter is pushed out. If this appears on the surface of the skin, it can be grasped with tweezers. Olive oil has a positive side effect because it nourishes the sore spot.
Water vapor
If you don't have any of these products in the house, bring water to the boil and pour it into a bowl. Expose the affected area of skin to the steam so that the wood swells and pushes itself out of the wound. If the thorn does not appear after one application, you can repeat the treatment several times a day.
Tip
In the pharmacy there are special ointments that are applied to the skin area and covered with a plaster. They do the work automatically and painlessly.
