A mole is usually an unwelcome guest in the garden. However, you are not allowed to catch or even kill it, because the unrecognized beneficial insect is under protection. The only option is to gently drive them away. Sounds are an effective weapon in the fight against a mole in the garden. Find out here how to scare the mole away with noise.
How do you get rid of a mole with noise?
To scare away a mole with noise, place wind turbines, cans, or glass bottles on metal rods in molehills or burrows so that they make noise when the wind blows. This disturbs the mole and causes it to leave the area.
The mole as a beneficial insect
The mole leaves unsightly mounds on clean lawns - but that's all. Apart from this small flaw, a mole in the garden is a real blessing: moles are great pest killers, ensure good aeration of the soil and therefore good soil quality. A mole would never tamper with your vegetable patch - the carnivore doesn't like vegetables and roots at all. If you find eaten roots in your garden, it is infested by a vole, not a mole. Moles also keep voles away.
Sounds against the mole
If you still want to get rid of the mole, you can do this with noise: moles have very good ears and feel disturbed when it is constantly loud. To make noise at the mole, you don't need to run loudspeakers at full volume. It's much easier and relatively noise-free for you. The sounds must be heard mainly underground, which can be achieved using various means:
- Place a wind turbine made from pet bottles, for example, onto a metal rod in a molehill or mole passage.
- Hang a can on a metal pole so that it hits the pole in the wind.
- Place a glass bottle or can upside down on a metal rod.
- Hang other movable objects made of glass, metal or wood on metal rods so that they hit the rods in the wind.
It makes sense to put “loud” equipment on metal rods in the mounds or passages at several points so that the mole is disturbed everywhere in its burrow. Leave your mole repellent in place for some time after the mole has disappeared to prevent it from coming back.
Ultrasound against moles
Special ultrasound devices against moles are available in specialist stores. The effectiveness is described in many reports as being rather low. In addition, although the ultrasound waves cannot be heard by us, they are extremely unpleasant and irritating for dogs, cats and, above all, the beneficial bats.
